An Embodied Phenomenological Analysis of Erving Goffman’s Theory of Setting in London Strip Clubs
A scenographic and phenomenological investigation of how London strip clubs utilise Erving Goffman’s theory of setting and dramaturgies of the physical space as factors that influence the creation of a “Counterfeit Intimacy”,using London Strip Clubs to redefine and cultivate Goffman’s theories.
For the first phase of my masters dissertation to better understand and study the transition of sound from the busy of soho streets to the subsequent quiet entrance of prominent London strip clubs I have recorded transitions to spatialise environments and analyse them against theories of applied scenography and micro-sociology.
